Calculate exactly how much food to feed a growing kitten by weight and life stage.
A cat's daily food amount is determined by weight, age, activity level, and the caloric density of the food. An indoor neutered cat eating high-energy dry kibble needs very few grams compared to a cat eating wet food, which has much higher water content. Start with our calculation and monitor their body shape.
Cats are small, so small feeding errors have huge impacts. For a 4kg cat, an extra 5-10 grams of dry food per day is the equivalent of a human eating an extra hamburger every day! Always use a digital kitchen scale for dry food to prevent obesity.
Cats are natural nibblers and possess small stomachs. Feeding 2 to 4 small meals per day is highly recommended to prevent vomiting ('scarf and barf') and mimic their natural hunting rhythm. Kittens need at least 3-4 feedings daily.
Wet food has distinct benefits: it contains roughly 70-80% water, which significantly supports hydration and reduces the risk of urinary tract issues and kidney stones. A mixed feeding plan (combining both dry kibble and wet food) is a great balance. You can use our food mix calculator to plan this.
